Yesterday, Primavera Sound kicked off in Barcelona at Parc del Fòrum, and it was not a great start. Bad weather was to blame for canceled performances. “Please remain calm and follow the instructions of the festival’s security and staff teams,” screens read on the main stages. “Stay tuned to the festival screens and official channels for further updates. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Some acts were able to play through the stormy weather. Fans showed up in the rain for Geese. Other acts like TV Girl were not so lucky. As the night went on, official set cancellations were announced, including Alex G, Mac DeMarco, Massive Attack, Bad Gyal, and Doja Cat. The reason given was “adverse weather and technical conditions.” Other stages later in the evening were still holding performances.
Doja Cat, who was supposed to perform at 11:30PM on the Revolut stage, was very emotional and rightfully upset about the cancellation. She went live, where she was wiping away tears, and also tweeted:
Barcelona i am fully dressed and ready to go to stage but it’s just not safe enough to continue the show tonight. I’m so sorry that this is how this shit has to be right now. I will think of everything I can under the sun to make it up to you. Please stay safe and warm I will see you again I promise.
Fans also missed out on Massive Attack's PSA against facial recognition technology. They had a similar performance last year. Massive Attack also shared a statement following their canceled set. They shared that they were disappointed about the circumstances and had prepared a special, updated set for their slot. "From the diversity of the bill, the spirit of the region and the breadth of public solidarity with the Palestinian cause, this one was special for us & had been the pinnacle of our summer preparation," they wrote. "Since accepting the offer to play last September, we'd created a new iteration of the show, prepared bespoke content, & invited special guests to make the occasion as memorable as possible."
The Primavera Sound Festival accounts also posted today, detailing the reasoning behind the chaos from yesterday. The post emphasized that the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages, because of their size and where they were located, were affected the most by the weather and that it would have been dangerous for performances to continue.
At the end of the statement, they added that more information about refunds for Thursdays' tickets will be available on Monday. It's unclear what that means for folks who bought weekend passes. It reads:
We understand and share the frustration and disappointment of the audience regarding this situation, which is not what we had hoped for on the first day of Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026. The festival organisers followed the established safety protocols at all times and prioritised the safety of the audience, artists and staff above all else. We thank the audience for their understanding and confirm that, despite the difficulty of the situation, there were no serious incidents. On Monday, details will be provided regarding the refund process for Thursday's tickets, the cost of which will be refunded.

This Primavera cancellation ‘announcement’ is kinda cunty af. I want Doja Cat to use it as a single cover for some ironic song in the future. pic.twitter.com/pbwfBlpV09
