Death Cab For Cutie Cover Hüsker Dü For SiriusXM

Earlier this month, Death Cab For Cutie released I Built You A Tower, their first album on ANTI- Records — revisit our wonderful chat about the band's new era with frontman Ben Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr. In a new video out today, Gibbard plays a stripped-down cover of Hüsker Dü's "Green Eyes" for SiriusXM with his other two Death Cab bandmates, guitarist Dave Depper and keyboardist Zac Rae.

Gibbard grew up on '80s alternative rock and frequently cites groups like R.E.M. and the Cure among his all-time favorites. So naturally, he goes way back with Hüsker Dü. He was initially announced to perform at the Bob Mould tribute concert See A Little Light in 2011, though based on our report from the show and the DVD that was later released, he didn't end up performing. In 2022, Gibbard joined Mould for Hüsker Dü's "Makes No Sense At All" onstage in Milwaukee.
