Meet the Lisbon-born, London-based singer-songwriter Natacha Simões, who's been releasing poignant, pretty indie rock tunes inspired by Alex G, Duster, and the like under the name Maripool for a few years. Today, she's announcing her debut album Rotten Luck, out this summer. The cool lead single "Crossing" out now.
"Crossing" is about her "favorite memories as a kid… whenever I crossed that bridge [between Lisbon and Almada] with my parents on a hot summer day." Rotten Luck was written during a month-long Lisbon residency in January 2025 in a dilapidated fisherman's building in a room with a broken window, dripping ceilings, and no Wi-Fi, which sounds sick (complimentary). It was then recorded in South London with Joseph Futak (Tapir!, Piglet).
