Ninajirachi Soundtracks Kylie Jenner Meta AI Glasses Campaign

Well, this sucks. No one likes smart glasses, except people who, for some reason, want to live in a surveillance state and think that recording people without their consent or knowledge is a normal thing to do. Kylie Jenner is the face of the new Meta Glasses campaign, which is not that surprising, but what is surprising is that the very exciting up-and-coming electronic artist Ninajirachi is a part of it, too.

The controversial commercial came out last week, airing during the World Cup, with Ninajirachi's I Love My Computer track "All I Am" soundtracking it. Both Kylie Jenner fans and Ninajirachi fans are not happy with this campaign, referring to the product on social media as "sexual predator camera glasses." Kylie Jenner also has her own "Starfire" glasses with Meta AI voiced by her, which sounds really weird.

These are the first Meta glasses that are Meta branded, as opposed to the Ray-Ban or Oakley models, though they are still manufactured by EssilorLuxottica. Announcing them last week, the company wrote, "Glasses are the most exciting hardware category of the AI era — The ideal device to experience an all-day AI assistant that understands the world from your perspective."

In April, Wired reported that over 70 civil rights and advocacy groups — including the ACLU, EPIC, and Fight For The Future — have warned that the AI glasses' facial recognition feature will endanger immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and survivors of abuse.

Responding to disappointed members of the Ninajirachi subreddit, the spot's music supervisor chimed in:

Glad (some of) you like it :) I love Nina -- was a fun opportunity to get her music out to a new audience and get somebody to pay nina
