Fiona Apple is coming back into the fold. Her music will be featured in the title sequence of the new miniseries Lucky, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and based on the 2021 novel by Marissa Stapley. Stereogum can confirm Apple's contribution is a new composition co-produced with her drummer Amy Aileen Wood. (Wood's wife Cassie Pappas is Lucky's co-showrunner.)
"I wanted [the music] to be mostly female-centric and have kind of a rock edge to it," Anya Taylor-Joy told Movieplayer.it before revealing that "the legend, Fiona Apple" soundtracks the title sequences. Taylor-Joy explained that her teenage self was freaking out. "I think her voice is a perfect description of this series. There’s a timbre and a rawness and a gravelliness that perfectly exemplifies the show.”
"When I saw the first episode, as soon as that title sequence broke in, I just remember this feeling of, 'Oh, fuck yeah. This is going to be a great show,'" costar Timothy Olyphant added. "Like it just defined the whole show. This show must be awesome if Fiona Apple's part of it."
Lucky premieres on Apple TV+ on July 15. Watch the interview clip and trailer below.
