Charli XCX’s Lone Music, Fashion, Film Feature Is David Cronenberg

At the end of Charli XCX's Coachella set last year, the screen behind her flashed a bunch of possible alternatives for the bygone Brat Summer. One of them was Cronenberg Summer, a fun thing to even think about. How would an entire summer dedicated to Canadian horror movie legend David Cronenberg look? Melted globs of flesh steaming on every sidewalk? Grotesque plastic surgery disasters partying in every club? Constant reminders of the fragility of human physiology? Wait! Is Cronenberg Summer happening right now? It might be, since Cronenberg is the only featured guest on the new Charli XCX album.

Charli XCX is a few short weeks away from the release of her new LP Music, Fashion, Film, and she has already shared the singles "Rock Music," "SS26," and "Wink Wink." In a recent French TV interview, Charli teased a guest who will appear on the LP: "There is one collaboration on the album. But you won't be able to guess. I would bet money on you not guessing." She was right! David Cronenberg is on the album, and I did not guess that.

Today, Charli unveiled the Music, Fashion, Film tracklist in a series of tweets. The album's final track is its closer "No One Lasts Forever," and that's the one with a David Cronenberg feature. That title is true enough, but David Cronenberg has lasted about as close to forever as a person can last. He directed his first film in 1969, and The Shrouds, his most recent feature, came out last year. Charli shouted out The Shrouds and proclaimed herself "a big Cronenberg stan" during a recent visit to the Criterion Closet.

And here's the Music, Fashion, Film tracklist.
