On last year's single "Bien Bien," Dominican-American singer María Isabel teamed up with the Spanish producer El Guincho, the former Stereogum Artist To Watch who's become best known as Rosalía's closest collaborator. Now, El Guincho has executive-produced her new EP.
Miss Me Much? drops next month. Its lead single "1-800" notably finds Isabel singing in English, dropping rapid-fire melodious syllables over slow, luxuriant production. It's in the Jhené Aiko zone, plaintive but sneakily poppy, and it joins the pantheon of great songs where the singer recites a phone number: "834-8965/ I wanna catch on one of these vibes." Like any good lead single, it makes me want to hear more. In the meantime, we can hear this.
