Last year, the Californian quasi-hardcore warriors Militarie Gun leaned into their more melodic and alt-rock sides on sophomore album God Save The Gun, sharpening their songwriting skills while still making something physical and exciting. It was one of our favorites of the year. Today, Militarie Gun announce a deluxe version of God Save The Gun with three new tracks. One of them is their new single "World's Always Burning," a team-up with Mannequin Pussy frontwoman Missy Dabice.
Militarie Gun and Mannequin Pussy are obvious kindred spirits, in both sonic terms and in general overall DIY point of view. This isn't their first time working together; Dabice guested on MG's "Will Logic" remix in 2024. She and MG mastermind Ian Shelton sound great together on "World's Always Burning," a simmering synth-and-guitar chug with some serious romance in its riffage. In a press release, Shelton says:
I can’t say whether or not the world is actually ending, but it certainly feels like the sense of community in the world is all but dead. I wanted to write about all the things we’re tricked into arguing about so politicians and technocratic fascists can get away with whatever they want. My neighbor and I might not agree on everything, but at least I know they’re not the one taking people’s rights away and destroying the world.
This fall, Militarie Gun head out on their 20 Songs For 20 Dollars tour with Softcult, Shady Nasty, and frequent collaborator Dazy. That's a fucking awesome concept and lineup. The Charlottetsville date is the same day as the Iron Blossom fest in Richmond, so I'm going to have to make a hard decision. Militarie Gun will also open some shows for the current version of the Sex Pistols, which is fun to think about.
