Kevin Morby & Waxahatchee Announce New Coolest Baby

2:34 PM EDT on July 23, 2026

When Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman kicked off their co-headlining tour back in April, Katie Crutchfield had a surprise: She was pregnant. Crutchfield reportedly introduced her final song of the night by saying, "This is a song about having a baby. This one’s going to hit a little different for me now." That baby is here now, so it'll hit even more different in the future.

On Tuesday, Crutchfield and her partner Kevin Morby welcomed their first child into the world. Morby posted the above photo of Crutchfield and the baby on his Instagram story. On his Substack yesterday, Morby wrote. "I returned from my European tour just in time for our little beautiful baby to kick the door in two weeks ahead of schedule... Like clockwork, I was home all but eight hours before Katie’s water broke. I like to think that the little guy waited for me."

Morby reports that the new family has been listening to Grouper's "Heavy Water/I’d Rather Be Sleeping" on repeat and that Crutchfield is "such a badass, but yall already knew that." He also says that he'll have to skip Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner's Eaux Claires Festival, which he was scheduled to play this weekend: "I was looking forward to jamming with Justin and Aaron which was going to feel very full circle but I know we will have lots of jamming in our futures."

On the Eaux Claires schedule, Morby has been replaced by someone named "Bon." Wonder who that could be.

Sorry to whoever the previous coolest baby was.
