Sheffield's Rat Cage picked the perfect band name, and they went on to make the exact kind of music that the name implies: Fast, raw, frantic, visceral, dirty hardcore punk. You can spot all kinds of early-'80s influences in Rat Cage's guttural attack, but it never feels like pastiche because it's too urgent.
After their 2023 album Savage Visions and their 2024 split with Gefyr, Rat Cage are coming back next month with a new full-length called Not Asking For Much. Opening track "Steady On Now" kicks off with an anthemic intro and then turns into a true berserker sprint. Check it out below.
