Most of us know James Ellis Ford as the producer of some of the most important UK albums of the past 20 years or so. But when his own life circumstances become extreme enough, like his current battle with acute myeloid leukemia, Ford might make an album of his own. Later this month, Ford will release his second solo LP Lost In Another World. He recorded it entirely by himself in a hospital bed last year, while going through chemotherapy treatments.
Ford already shared his lead single "Overtones." Today, he releases a bleepy but ruminative synthpop track called "The Ever After." Ford's roots in dance music go deep — he was one half of Simian Mobile Disco — and the song works as an inspiring work of optimism in the face a situation that gives most of us nightmares to even contemplate. Here's what Ford says about it:
It might seem a little odd to be trying to write dance music from a hospital bed, but I was trying to lift my mood and focus on the positive things in my life. In that moment, my mind went to my little eight-year-old boy Frank and the power he has to bring joy into the world and point the way to a better future.
