Wet Leg's Rhian Teasdale is the face of a new Deutsche Telekom campaign targeted at Gen Z reclaiming agency in a digitally overstimulating world. The campaign is called "Not A Passenger," and actualized in a visual, inspired by the Cardigans' 1998 hit "My Favorite Game," where Teasdale fends off internet influencer demons pushing their manifestations, self-care routines, or AI slop. The video also features Wet Leg covering "My Favorite Game," and it plays as an homage to the video.
The campaign's agenda reads as such:
Turns out everyone wants a seat in your car. Even weirder? They all think they should be driving. At some point, it gets hard to tell who's actually behind the wheel. The algorithm keeps talking. The comments keep coming. Somewhere in all that noise, it's easy to lose sight of your own direction. But what if you tuned out the noise long enough to hear your own signal? There's only one way to find out. Now mute the backseat drivers. Trust your own instincts. Take the wheel
Teasdale also shared a quote on why "Not A Passenger" resonated with her:
I love being in a band and I love making music, but it’s 2026, which means I also run a couple of social media accounts. And with that comes a constant stream of opinions about me, my friends, and the music we make. Whether those opinions are super sweet and encouraging or creepy and loaded with misogyny, it’s important to me to be able to tune them out and stay on my own frequency. That’s why the message of “I’m Not a Passenger” really clicked with me. We’re all constantly being told who to be by strangers online. Life’s too short not to be at the helm.
Telekom Electronic Beats will host an event for the campaign at a former garage workshop in Berlin on August 26. Wet Leg will headline, with openers Lava La Rue and Wolfram. Stereogum has learned there are no plans for the release of Wet Leg’s Cardigans cover outside the campaign, but that they will perform it for the first time at the Berlin concert.
