Alanis Morissette is coming off a triumphant weekend performing alongside Olivia Rodrigo at her Daisy Chain Fields festival, but not all is well in Morissette's world. She just sued her former tour manager, accusing her of an extortion plot.
In a six-page complaint filed Tuesday in US District Court, Morissette accused Keren Urinov of attempting to blackmail her, Courthouse News reports. Specifically, she's suing for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation.
According to the lawsuit, Morissette hired Urinov, the former head of Live Nation Israel, to be her temporary tour manager last year. While traveling from the UK to Spain, the British Border Force arrested Urinov after finding marijuana and xylazine in her bag. At the time, Urinov admitted to the authorities that the bag belonged to her and showed them her Israeli medical marijuana license.
At the end of the tour, Urinov and her lawyer allegedly sent Morissette a series of "increasingly extortionate" letters. Per the lawsuit, "Urinov threatened to file a patently frivolous lawsuit against Morissette in the United Kingdom for unspecified claims if Morissette refused to tell British law enforcement that the alleged drugs were hers." Urinov's letters indicated she would only relent if Morissette hired her as tour director for a 15-year term, with annual increases and bonuses.
"Morissette is not interested in employing Urinov for 15 years — not only because she is a blackmailer, but also because she was a terrible manager of the 2025 tour," the lawsuit reads. It cites a hotel booking mistake by Urinov that cost Morissette $70,000 to fix, as well as the revelation that Urinov was once arrested for drug smuggling in a Latin American country and illegally fled the country after being released on bail.
