DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ – “Junior Beat”

Our favorite DJ named after a '90s TV show has returned with another phantasmical new track. The new single "Junior Beat" continues DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ's prolific streak as the follow-up to July's "Still Standing."

"Junior Beat" nods to French electronic DJ Quentin Dupieux's big hit, "Flat Beat," released under his Mr. Oizo moniker in 1999. It was a huge hit that influenced a lot of creative spinoffs, or copycats, to some. Most notably, Italian DJs Nari & Milani released their song "Triangle," which Mr. Oizo was not okay with.

Sabrina's "Junior Beat" packshot riffs on Flat Beat's EP cover and also the accompanying visual, which featured a hardworking yellow puppet. Instead, hers features a puppet with braids and a flower dress. It's unclear if Sabrina is paying homage with her latest single or taking the piss. Or maybe she's attempting to duel him, seeing if she can one-up his '90s hit.

The Bandcamp description reads as such:

Now we all remember Nari & Milani's Triangle? And we all remember Quentin Dupieux's reaction to it? And we all remember the various attempts to remake the minimal genius of Flat Beat and Doom's Night? And the genre fidget house? So, here's my solution, combine elements of Flat Beat, Flat 55, M-Seq, Tweeter Trouble and Camisra's Let Me Show You... simple when you think about it.

Now, this video uses ZERO A.I. or slop! I hand-modelled the furniture in Blender, rendered it with Cycles, videoed the puppet at 24p, basic processing in Davinci Resolve. Whole video took a couple of hours of modelling and rendering, a couple of hours of shooting and a couple of hours of editing, see? No need for hot garbage AI. Finally, it'll be on streaming soon!!
