Pulp have been back at it for well over three years now, so it's probably too late to reflexively describe them as "the reunited Pulp" or "the resurgent Pulp." But if it's no longer novel for Jarvis Cocker and friends to be playing shows and releasing new music again, there are still ways for the band to surprise and delight their fans.
Saturday night, Pulp headlined the End Of The Road festival in the South of England. Their set included quite a few songs they haven't performed in decades. Per setlist.fm, the second song of the night was "Little Girl (With Blue Eyes)," performed for the first time since 2012, but Pulp were about to dig way farther back than that. Next up was "The Mark Of The Devil" for the first time since 1992. Do you realize how long ago that was? Nobody had even started saying "Britpop" yet.
Later, Pulp played "Forever In My Dreams" for the first time since 2000, "Death II" for the first time since 1992, and "We Are The Boyz" for the first time since 1998. Along the way, they threw in a live debut of another oldie, performing "Deep Fried In Kelvin" onstage for the first time.
