When Your Old Droog's family moved from Ukraine to Brooklyn, they were broke and homesick, and they would spread caviar thinly across plain, regular bread. That's the inspiration for Droog's upcoming album Bread & Butter, the latest solo LP in an extremely prolific run. Droog's latest has contributions from people like Evidence. Oddisee, and Conductor Williams, and his latest single is a collaboration with Flying Lotus and Georgia Anne Muldrow.
Recently, Your Old Droog and legendary producer Madlib have been making music together as Droogie Otis, and they made their late-night debut on Fallon earlier this year. We still haven't gotten a Droogie Otis album, but Droog has continued to release a lot of music on his own. His Anything Is Possible EP came out late last year. Last month, he dropped "Pavlovian Effect," an Ohbliv-produced track with New York rap vet Masta Ace, South African star A-Reece, and Butcher Brown multi-instrumentalist DJ Harrison.
"Pavlovian Effect" is on Bread & Butter, and so is "I Don't Care," Droog's new Flying Lotus-produced track with psychedelic soul/jazz singer Georgia Anne Muldrow. Both tracks are spacey and playful, and both show slight departures from Droog's boom-bap comfort zone. Below, check out both of those songs and the Bread & Butter tracklist.
