New heavy metal enthusiast William Shatner and his metal group the *uckers made their debut on Sept. 19 at Park West in Chicago. He and his band — composed of guitarists Marcus Nand and Britt Lightning, bassist Phil Soussan, and drummer Fred Achin — are performing tonight at Riot Fest on the Rebel Stage. But last night they did a warm up gig for fans.
According to setlist.fm, the band’s set included covers of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train," Motörhead's "Ace Of Spades," and Metallica's "Enter Sandman." He also performed three originals, one of which may be titled "damn old age." The Star Trek star is an impressive 95 years old.
In an interview with Michael Moynihan from earlier this month, Shatner expressed that he "is in a fervor of creativity. I am writing books. I'm doing albums. This heavy metal album...I'm gonna do a concert. I'm gonna do 30-minute concert — 30 minutes of heavy metal," he said laughing in disbelief, "with a band. 30 minutes on stage." He went on to discuss that he didn't have much knowledge of heavy metal, and wrote a response song to Guns N' Roses "Patience." He described the song as "impassioned." He added: "I'm tired of old age. I'm tired of losing hair. I'm tired of not eating. I'm tired of catching a cold. I'm tired of being tired. I'm tired!'"
“You gotta start with the premise that I really know nothing [about metal],” Captain Kirk also said.
Earlier this year, Shatner announced that he also booked Coachella. The longtime recording atrust’s metal album What The F Is Heavy Metal?, which is coming out via Cleopatra, has no release date yet.
