SNL Roasts Stella Leffy In Cut-For-Time Weekend Update Segment

1:02 PM EDT on October 1, 2026

Stella Lefty must be so happy about all the Ed Sheeran stuff. Before Sheeran submitted to billionaire demands and kicked Macklemore off of his tour, Lefty, the Groupon heiress turned flavorless country-folk-pop singer, was the easiest snark-target in the music world. Lefty's breakout smash "Boston," still the #2 song in America, was a big enough bite of Noah Kahan's recent hit "Stick Season" that Kahan got writing credit, and then people kept noticing that other songs from Lefty's debut album were blatant ripoffs of other obvious popular songs. The "Stella Thefty" jokes wrote themselves. Now, Saturday Night Live has shared a cut-for-time Weekend Update bit built on the "Stella Lefty keeps stealing other people's songs" premise.

SNL came back last weekend with New York hero Jalen Brunson hosting the season premiere and whatever's left of KATSEYE as musical guests. SNL regularly shares sketches that were cut for time, and the most recent one of them is a Weekend Update Stella Lefty impression. It's a showcase for Veronika Slowikowska, a comedian who joined the cast last season. The premise is that all of Lefty's songs are about Boston and being drunk, and they're also obvious ripoffs of hits that everyone knows. The premise requires to Slowikowska to belt out tunes more convincingly than Lefty herself probably ever could. Check it out below.

Stella Lefty is taking it well. She commented on the SNL Instagram post and posted the sketch on her Instagram story.

Veronika Slowikowska may or may not do some singing outside the context of SNL, too. Last year, the New York indie-pop project Me As A Girl released its debut single "when you had me you ran away" with Helen Gao, which was included on an EP called its all possible this past March. "I Don't Know Why I Said That" followed over the summer, and on YouTube (though not DSPs) that song's production is credited to Kyle Chase, Slowikowska's comedy partner. Slowikowska has been coy about whether the singer on the track is actually her, but she has been promoting it a lot. It's her the video, at least. It's good!

Last month, Slowikowska made her live debut at the Brooklyn venue Baby's All Right and just sang the one song.

Me As A Girl could turn out to be some kind of elaborate prank, but it seems like a legit creative side project. In other news, we get Turnstile on SNL this weekend.
