Soup Activists Announce New Album Where The Rubbish Goes: Hear “Johnny”

10:38 AM EDT on October 7, 2026

St. Louis musician Martin Meyer used to lead the punk band Lumpy And The Dumpers and run the label Lumpy Records. Since 2020, Meyer has been cranking out playful lo-fi power-pop under the name Soup Activists. (He's really the only Soup Activist.) Thus far, Soup Activists have released a handful of EPs and one full-length, 2024's Mummy What Are Flowers For? Next month, he'll release a new one called Where The Rubbish Goes.

Meyer recorded Where The Rubbish Goes at an old Masonic lodge in Dayton, Kentucky, and he played most of the instruments himself and also did the cover art. The whole thing apparently clocks in at 25 minutes, the perfect length for a record like this one. Lead single "Johnny" is a revved-up speed jangle with blasé vocals that sound a lot cooler than what the description led me to expect. In the Bandcamp description, Meyer says that he wrote it for his friend Johnny during a recent European tour: "I was thinking about all the Johnny-themed rock 'n’ roll songs and decided surely my Johnny deserves one." Check it out below.
