It feels really, really good to hear Cardi B talk her shit. Over the past decade or so, the New York rap star has not really altered her method of shit-talk, and it's pretty far from the current current mainstream, whether we're talking about rap or pop. Maybe her shit-talk doesn't hit quite the same as it did on "Bodak Yellow" once upon a time, but it still scratches some deep mental itch. Maybe it'll hit even harder when you're trying to jump a stolen Bravado Banshee over the Vice City River.
Cardi B is now part of the Grand Theft Auto VI rollout. The blockbuster game comes out next month, and its makers just unveiled the cast of characters who will host the in-game radio stations — including the strange trio of Morgan Wallen, Lana Del Rey, and Lana Del Rey's husband on the country station. The game will also have a 34-song soundtrack album. Last month, Rockstar Games shared six tracks, all from big stars who share absolutely zero aesthetic qualities, including Travis Scott, Keith Richards, and the unlikely duo of Yung Lean and Future. Today, the GTA people drop two more tracks, including Cardi B's latest.
Cardi finally released her long-awaited sophomore album Am I The Drama? last year, and she followed it with the one-off single "AH HA" in July. She made her new song "Don't Chart" with longtime collaborators like producer Vinylz and co-writer Pardison Fontaine, and it works in classic Cardi mode. The beat is a bright, minimal bounce, and Cardi flexes all over it: "Look, let's have a conversation/ You ain't a bad bitch, you're just a bitch that had a bad operation." She also says, "I can name this song 'Don't Chart,' it's gon' chart," so I really hope it charts. It's a good song. Listen below.
The other newly shared GTA song is called "Suzuki," and it's got Fuerza Regida, the regional Mexican music hitmakers from San Bernadino, going in more of a reggaeton direction.
Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album is out 11/19 alongside the game.
