Before she released her star-making 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, Doechii stoked interest with her Swamp Sessions series — a set of short, aggressively rapped songs with eye-grabbing, heavily art-directed videos. Today, Doechii is a star, and her recent singles have been much more conventional — "girl, get up." with SZA, "Runway" with Lady Gaga. But now, Doechii is building up to the release of her new album, and she's got a new Swamp Session song for us.
Right now, we don't know anything about the state of Doechii's upcoming album, which will presumably be marketed as her debut, since Alligator Bites Never Heal has been labelled a mixtape. Today, however, she unveils "Bomb," a scattered, intense new fast-rap workout with an instantly memorable self-directed video. The beat is a high-BPM jackhammer attack with tons of flying-saucer Theremin sounds. Doechii herself keeps pace, rapping with commanding motormouth panache. The song is only a minute and a half long, so this might just be an excerpt of it. It ends with what sounds like a teaser of another track, or maybe a beat switch.
The "Bomb" video finds Doechii dressed like a fembot, striking dramatic poses and shooting at the camera from the guns in her boobs. Given that Doechii is headlining next year's Primavera, this feels like the first piece of a big-deal album rollout. Check it out below.
