Last month the Nixon sisters of New Zealand announced Given To The Night, their latest album as Purple Pilgrims. It's coming out on the ultra-trendy AD 93 label, and its lead single "Innocence Lost" was promising. So is "Outside," an elegant dream-pop ballad that feels like a transmission from an older time. (All recorded music is technically a transmission from an older time, but hopefully you know what I mean.)
The band shared this statement on the new tune:
This song is an ode to outsiders. A term that once felt heavy, now feels like an anointed privilege.
Relishing a space of one’s own. The feeling of putting on headphones and walking through the world – of it and others at the same time — is a sacred space that most of us can relate to, we think. From that space, "Outside" ponders some fairly existential feelings in passing — from all of our beginnings as pure energy, where and how could we transcend beyond. How isolating it is to go/grow through something transitional — how it is beautiful too, when broken down into quantum forms.
Listen below, and let me know if this band name makes you think of D12 like it goes for me. It's not too late to get Denaun Porter on the remix, Purple Pilgrims!
Given To The Night is out 11/27 via AD 93.
