Last December, Geese frontman Cameron Winter played an instantly-famous solo show at the storied New York venue Carnegie Hall, becoming one of the youngest artists ever to headline in that room. The live-album version of that concert is out now, and it was our Album Of The Week last week. During the show, audience members notices Paul Thomas Anderson (and Benny Safdie) in the crowd and onstage, filming the performance. Anderson's resulting concert movie Cameron Winter At Carnegie Hall is going on tour this fall and winter, and we finally get to see a glimpse of it in a new trailer.
For a certain type of person, the release of Cameron Winter At Carnegie Hall is one of the biggest events of the year. This is Paul Thomas Anderson's follow-up to One Battle After Another, the movie that finally won him a handful of Oscars. Cameron Winter At Carnegie Hall premiered at the New York Film Festival and earned rave reviews earlier this month. Janus Films and Criterion are supervising the touring version of the film, where it'll screen on 35mm film.
The new movie trailer is only a minute long, but the crackly film aesthetic really works for it. We hear a quick snatch of Winter's "Dead At 23" performance and see the crowd starting to gather inside and outside the venue. There's nothing surprising here, but it looks fantastic. Check it out below.
The touring Cameron Winter At Carnegie Hall screenings start 11/20 at two New York theaters. Mubi will reportedly stream the movie at some point next year.
