In just a few days, the indie rock singer-songwriter Caroline Rose will release Gentling The Horse At The Walt Whitman Mall, the new album that they recorded with producer John Congleton. We've posted their singles "Chow Mein," "Calm," and "Hello Again, Jim." With the album release looming, Rose has just shared one more track, "Valery (please don't be mad at me) It's a bright, propulsive power-pop number that builds to some awesomely erratic screamy stuff. Here's what Rose says about the song:
A lot of this record pulls from stories from my hometown and fuses them with other stories from when I lived in NYC, so some characters might be a mix of two or three different people. "Valery" is a combination of my best friend from my hometown, who passed away from a heroin overdose many years ago, along with another friend I loved so much who also became addicted to heroin and just had a really difficult life. I gravitate toward people in my life who have struggled, and they often come out as characters in my songs.
Below, check out the studio version of "Valery (please don't be mad at me)," as well as a video of Rose and their band playing the song live at Permanent Records in LA.
Gentling The Horse At The Walt Whitman Mall is out 10/23 on Rose's own label SUCK records.
