This year's holiday season is more special than usual. Olivia Rodrigo — who released her awesome third album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love in June — is sharing her first-ever Christmas song. It's here now, and it's titled "take me home (4 christmas)."
"take me home (4 christmas)" was produced by Dan Nigro, who wrote it with Rodrigo and Amy Allen, and it seems to take some inspiration from the Waitresses classic "Christmas Wrapping." The single follows last month's playful "expectations" remix with Chappell Roan, which came with a (not-AI-generated!) music video featuring David Byrne. "take me home (4 christmas)" also comes with a music video, and this one features Sex And The City's Cynthia Nixon and SNL's Ben Marshall.
Earlier this year, Rodrigo told Jimmy Fallon that Sex And The City is her favorite show and it even inspired the new album: "Like, when Miranda and Steve are getting back together, she's crying. 'Steve, anytime something funny happens, I just want to tell you.' And I remember watching that and being like, 'Oh, my God, I have to write a song about this,'" she said, seemingly alluding to "maggots for brains," which has the line: "And everything that's funny, I wish I could tell to him." She added, "There's actually multiple songs that are inspired by Miranda and Steve.”
