In November 1973, mere weeks after the release of his double-LP blockbuster Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John released an original holiday single called "Step Into Christmas." The song was a top-10 hit in the UK, and since 1995 it's been slotted onto the end of his 1974 album Caribou as a bonus track.
Today, more than 50 years after the original, he's released a new duet version of "Step Into Christmas" that pairs him with CMAT, the talented and charismatic Irish pop/country/alternative artist who we like quite a bit here at the Gum. She teased the collab by dressing as Elton John for Halloween, a move I appreciate as someone who posts a roundup of new Christmas albums for Halloween each year.
The new "Step Into Christmas" premieres today as part of the Amazon Music Holiday Originals campaign. In addition to the Elton John x CMAT duet, the series includes the Beaches covering Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," the Head And The Heart doing Stevie Wonder's "Someday At Christmas," and a bunch of other tracks from artists like Hoshi, Elvis Crespo, Jalen Ngonda, MEEK, and Raya Real.
Check out the reworked "Step Into Christmas" at Amazon Music.
