Dan Rossen Month continues with another cut from the Department Of Eagles DUMBOsession that brought us the unreleased "1997," featuring Dan and Fred alone in a Brooklyn room with a view. This live "Herring Bone" is stripped of In Ear Park's arrangements and accouterments, presented here in its piano-man core, unadorned but for a few touches of Fred's rhythmic support. Rossen digs up a little grit in his voice when he sings live, and somehow that helps compensate for the absence of Chris Taylor's studio touches.
