After making a splash with her vocal on the Sunn O))) / Boris collab Altar last year, melancholic, gothic country-rocker Jesse Sykes and her backing band The Sweet Hereafter are set to release their third record -- and it all makes for a long ass post title. Jesse's weathered, velvety vocals bend and fray with the album's textured turns, sometimes an old woman's whisper, sometimes a raspy man's moan. The Sweet Hereafter includes ex-Whiskeytown guitarist Paul Wandscher, whose playing adds a cosmic-country quality to the tunes. Take this cut as Exhibit A:
Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter - "Station Grey" (MP3)
And if you missed it, here's another taste of the record's spacey & western:
Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter - "LLL" (MP3)
