"Bullfighter Jacket" comes as the second listen from Miniature Tigers' forthcoming Fortress, following up on the Alan Palomo-produced high-pitched keyboard dreaminess of "Gold Skull." (That one also has a video.) This track, like the rest of the LP, is produced by the morning benders' Chris Chu, giving the Mini Tigers a lock on unexpected production credits from this past year's breakout indie leading men. Ultimately, lead Tiger Charlie Brand's harmonious, jangling pop angled toward '60s is a closer fit to the benders than to Neon Indian, though each's production style brings welcome variation to the plot. "Bullfighter Jacket" is sunny and warm, a piano and strummed song about giving yourself over to a pale skin and ribbons, given a nice home by colorful and slightly off kilter psychedelic flourishes at the track's transitional moments, something Chu knows how to do well.
