Really interesting to see how the Purple One has reclaimed his legend over the past few years; punchline worthy as ever, but that's only for his eccentricity -- these days it's like every live move he makes is massive headline material (crashing online ticketing systems in London, selling out $3,000 VIP shows in LA, etc). So, this Saturday was proclaimed Prince day in his home state, and he celebrated in style with three shows in 12 hours. Via AP:
The Minneapolis native first performed Saturday at a department store to promote his new cologne, cramming nine songs into a 45-minute set. He then played that night at the Target Center arena. He capped the night with a return to First Avenue, the club he made famous in the movie "Purple Rain."
The cops shut him down at the city's 4AM curfew, else he'd still be playing right now. And it seems like everybody was getting in on the numerology kick this weekend. While we were taking in 77 drummers on 7/7/07 (post TK), Prince was honoring the lucky digit with his classic hit "7," a bit of which awaits you after the click.
