Gary War – “Sirens” (Stereogum Premiere)

I like that "Sirens" sounds like it should -- a kind of half-submerged emergency whistle splashing around the Police Water. So far we've heard EP opener, the '80s sci-fi "Born Of Light," and the equally apocalyptic, dystopian CD bonus track "Hollow Futures." If you own the vinyl, though, it all ends with "Sirens," the song that feels like the proper closer: It's the brightest, most forward-pushing and danceable song on the collection, bringing things to a close with a prism of colors and textures while maintaining the suffocated feel of everything that came before it.

The Police Water EP is out via Sacred Bones. As mentioned last time, also look for a live split album with labelmate Zola Jesus.
