When I talked to Small Black singer Josh Kolenik about writing lyrics, he said the fallibility of memory made this hard, because his recollections were either idealized or inaccurate or otherwise hazy. That fallibility became a theme on New Chain, and on the video for "Photojournalist." For this clip director Yoonha Park shot footage with one actress, then, several weeks later, had a different actress try to recreate the same footage, but without referring to the original.Even the rhythm and melody of the song seem to pitch up and down, as if it's drifting out of time.
