Wise Blood – “@fuckwiseblood”

Wise Blood

|Wise Blood

Wise Blood and his sample-centric, brooding R&B stomp-pop made our Must See of SXSW 2011 list, although it wasn't until the more recent, first-ever full-band show in Brooklyn that I had the chance to take Stereogum.com's advice. It was ostensibly a WU LYF coming out party, being that British band's first show on American soil, but Wise Blood's opening set was a kinetic, quick and combustible string of six or so songs that owned my evening. (Before the show he mentioned a preference to play 15 minutes "at a sprint" and leave people wanting more, which was no lie.) The balcony was scaled, a pretty photographer propositioned, an open call for post-show coke made, and soon after performing a song with spastic but crisp cadence with a sweatshirt half-pulled over his head, main Wise Blooder Christopher Laufman was done -- sweaty, electrifying, sprinted, winded. This new song "@fuckwiseblood" comes in advance of a forthcoming, second EP titled These Wings out this August via Dovecote. The track's a piss-take, mostly, on music, eccentricity, and social media -- "Facebook's the same, Twitter's always the same -- you either update tour schedules or you play up insane. So I spill out my brain, tell you just how I feel, but every time I do that I hear the same shit." It's called "@fuckwiseblood," a knowing reference in the world of Twitter handles and also a new Twitter account ("the first song about Twitter was 'follow me' by unkle kracker') and also the best way to name a song if you want to know whenever someone Tweets about it. And here it is in song form:
