David Cross aka Ronnie Dobbs aka Samson Dalonoga and Demetri Martin aka the new Rachel Hunter teamed up to turn their indie-oriented ears toward celebrity-made music. To ensure the veracity and accuracy of their responses, they wore blindfolds.
Vanity Fair's one time mag Movies Rock (the same of top soundtracks fame) subjected the pair to sounds from Bruce Willis, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Russell Crowe, Keanu Reeves's Dogstar, and John Travolta. The Blindfold Test, based on jazz rag Down Beat's iconic feature, asks its victims to listen to music of unknown origin and comment. A sample of the D&D-infused proceedings:
"Respect Yourself" by Bruce Willis, from the album The Return Of Bruno (1987).
DEMETRI MARTIN: It?s like they turned on everything in the studio.
DAVID CROSS: And just got professionals to cover up whoever?s shitty vocals those are and idea that is, whoever?s vanity project. Was that Bruce Willis?
MOVIES ROCK: Yeah, that was Bruce Willis.
DAVID CROSS: Ironically, he?s talking about respecting yourself, and he picked the absolute worst medium to get that across.
DEMETRI MARTIN: Well, that?s why it?s not called ?Respect Myself.?
Good thing they were wearing blindfolds; the only thing more painful than listening to Bruce Willis make music is watching Bruce Willis make music.
Check the rest of David and Demetri's piece at GoldenFiddle. And don't forget to buy a Fiddle tee (womens' sizes range from Nicole Richie to Tyra Banks, mens' from grade school to Jeff Lebowski).
On a somewhat related note, someone told us David Cross turned up at Union Hall on Halloween dressed as Tobias Fünke during his Blue Man Group phase. Somebody confirm or deny. Please.
