Tanya Donelly Covers Neil Young

While Neil Young's out chasing his Chrome Dreams, 21 female musicians have gotten together to cover some of his classics (the time frame's 1969-1979) in order to raise money for charity and to pay homage to some well loved songs. The cheekily titled Cinnamon Girl: Women Artists Cover Neil Young's being released by American Laundromat, the folks who recently brought us Dig For Fire, the Pixies tribute with the noisome Mogwai gouging. No Mogwai this time (they ain't ladies), but we do get the Watson Twins, Britta Phillips, Jill Sobule (with John Doe, the one male exception), Kristin Hersh, and another ex-Throwing Muse Tanya Donnelly. Actually, Donnelly wins points for spanning both comps via her association with Kim Deal in the Breeders, so why not offer you a stream of her deeply bowed and felt "Heart Of Gold"? Call it fan boy logic.

A faithful but personalized take, no? The rest of the crew:
