Hospice is the powerful little Frenchkiss-debut LP from ascendant Brooklyn outfit the Antlers. I last saw them on a stacked bill at Bowery Ballroom some weeks ago, opening for fellow upstarts Cymbals Eat Guitars and White Rabbits; a tough show from which to pick favorites, although their early set was the one I left thinking about. This 20-minute video NPR captured from the band's show at the Black Cat in D.C. is a good place to start, even though the live show is still some steps from capturing the album's full majesty, which spins homespun intimacy into more expansive and cathartic moments. Frenchkiss is releasing a remastered version of Hospice digitally on 6/23, with physical release to follow 8/18. Worth checking out. Stream the whole thing for the next week at Spinner.
