According to Drake and Chromeo and confirmed via publicist, the French dance DJ and producer DJ Mehdi has died at the tragically young age of 34.
Mehdi has been a part of the French hip-hop and electro scenes since the late '90s, but he really rose to prominence after linking with Ed Banger Records. In recent years, he's remixed and collaborated with a ton of big names, and he's been a constant presence on the touring circuit. It's also worth mentioning that his track "Signatune" was an absolute anthem, and the music video for its T. Bangalter edit is one of the absolute best videos that's come out in recent years. We don't know anything about Mehdi's death yet, and are waiting on a statement from Mehdi's label and representatives. But what a sad thing.
