Much of Sun Kil Moon's 2012 album, Among The Leaves, finds Mark Kozelek writing about his life as a musician, perhaps never more directly than on "Track Number 8." In the lyric, the title is rhymed with "I wrote this one and I know it ain't great," but there's some false modesty in that statement: It's a powerful and illuminating song that brings to light some details of the hard road chosen by touring musicians, especially as they reach middle age. Kozelek played the song back stage at Fallon last week; unlike his on-stage performances with the Roots, this one is just Koz and a guitar, but it's still pretty damn heart-stopping. Check it out.
