Drake – “Wu-Tang Forever”
Last week, when Drake unveiled the tracklist to his upcoming third album Nothing Was The Same, one track title jumped out even more than “Tuscan Leather”: What the fuck was Drake, of all possible people, doing naming a song “Wu-Tang Forever”? As it turns out, the song title is, more or less, a hashtag. Drake didn’t call the song that because he’s started rapping like Cappadonna; he did it because the track samples “It’s Yourz,” one of the songs from the 1997 double album Wu-Tang Forever, and there you go. Musically and lyrically, the track is a great example of Drake’s soft, still relationship talk, and it finds him lamenting past happiness and seamlessly flipping back and forth between rapping and cooing. Noah “40” Shebib produced the track, and his piano-plinks are things of beauty. Jhené Aiko adds some backing vocals. Listen below.
