Ava Luna – “I Love It” (Icona Pop Cover)
On their 2012 full-length record Ice Level, Brooklyn’s Ava Luna deconstruct and reassemble bits of R&B, soul, post-punk, and pop sounds, so its unsurprising that their take on a hit like Icona Pop’s “I Love It” would also bring in a whole spectrum of influences. “The more time goes by, I consider myself less a singer, and more a vocal artist,” singer Becca Kauffman told Rookie. “I like hearing different stylings and figuring out how to use them in the band. For example, with this Icona Pop cover we did, since it’s for Rookie, I want to make it gritty and badass, so I am doing my best Bratmobile/Bikini Kill impression.” The cover was Rookie’s October “Theme Song.” Stream it below.
