Rumors have been swirling for a while now, but the people behind Coachella haven't unveiled their 2027 lineup yet. (Last year, they announced the 2026 lineup in September.) Last month, we learned that Dua Lipa and Tame Impala were likely to headline next year's festival, at least according to what sources told HITS Daily Double. Now, TMZ reports that those two acts are "nearly confirmed" as headliners, and so is SZA, one of the artists reportedly under consideration. TMZ also has some interesting reports on the acts who said no to Coachella.

According to TMZ, both Rage Against The Machine and BTS, two groups that don't otherwise have too much in common, both said no to headlining offers. Rage Against The Machine already headlined Coachella in 1999 and 2007, and they were booked to return in 2020, though that festival was obviously canceled for COVID reasons. RATM haven't played live since they finished their most recent reunion tour in 2022. K-pop has become an increasingly big deal at Coachella in recent years, but BTS have never played the festival before.

Past reports mentioned that Miley (formerly Cyrus) also turned down a Coachella offer and that Oasis and Radiohead were also being considered, though both of those seem like pretty big reaches. Instead, it looks like Coachella will have a set of three contemporary pop-star headliners. Tame Impala have already played Coachella four times, including a headlining set in 2019. SZA has played twice. Dua Lipa has never been on the festival bill. It's probably worth noting that Tame Impala has worked with both Dua Lipa and SZA. Earlier this month, Tame Impala and SZA guested, alongside King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, on Justice's Grand Theft Auto VI single "Flower In A Hurricane."

Next year's Coachella goes down Apr. 9-11 and then Apr. 16-18.

UPDATE: As it happens, Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack De La Rocha just did an exceedingly rare and seeminly off-the-cuff interview with the Spanish-language outlet Binaural. (The interview was printed in Spanish; any quotes here have been auto-translated to English.) At an exhibition for the great photographer Glen E. Friedman, De La Rocha and Friedman did the interview together, and De La Rocha talked a bit about Turnstile, who recently covered his own pre-RATM band Inside Out. Here's what he said about them:

It’s interesting to see how this style is resurfacing. I don't know if it will have the same impact, but, once again, there are many kids who are discovering it for the first time. And they do it through their first experience with bands like Turnstile. Afterwards, they start discovering Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Negative Approach, the Clash... So these bands occupy a really interesting place, like a kind of bridge. I hope that people, through them, will look back at the original groups... Personally, I don’t think a band like Turnstile could exist without something like Bad Brains.
