The Aussie blokes did it. For Triple J's Like A Version, Tame Impala covered Seal's "Kiss From A Rose." Their spin on the Batman Forever Soundtrack standout feels both majestic and hypnotic. There's something Beach Boys-y about it, probably the harmonies. It's a deceivingly simple song. Kevin Parker described the childhood favorite as "quite proggy," given its unexpected rhythm changes.
"It wasn't an easy decision, if I'm honest," he explained. "A few of us had the idea simultaneously, and we were like, 'Ah yeah, we can't do that. That's too hard.' We just thought we weren't going to be able to do it. Once we accepted that none of us sound like Seal — none of us have the insane voice that he does — once we were content with it's us, it's a bunch of Aussie blokes doing it, then I think we were at peace with it. We're just gonna do the best we can."
They seem to have gotten the Seal of approval: Seal's Instagram account commented with hand-clapping emojis on Tame Impala's post, although the artist does outsource his social media activity. Tame Impala also performed their hit "Dracula." Watch both performances below.
