Watch Deafheaven’s Full Set At 285 Kent’s Second-To-Last Show
The storied Williamsburg DIY space 285 Kent held its final show last night. Hundreds of fans of the venue’s progressive booking and indoor smoking paid their respects as Fucked Up, DIIV, White Lung, Guardian Alien, and LODRO played, with many sticking around to dance until dawn. According to Twitter, at least. I didn’t go, but I’m sure it was fun — Fucked Up/Iceage/JEFF The Brotherhood was one of the best shows I ever saw at 285 Kent. Anyway, at a haircut yesterday, my stylist told me she was thinking of going to the last show and did I think she needed tickets? Ha, yeah, probably. Fortunately (?) it looks like plenty of photographers were there to document it. Fucked Up frontman Damien Abraham said of the room, “Of all the amazing venues we’ve played, this is by far the fucking coolest.” Later his band ended its set with a cover of “Blitzkrieg Bop.”
Twenty-four hours earlier, 2013’s metal crossover heroes Deafheaven played a surprise headline set after performances by Wolf Eves, Noveller, and Alberich. unARTigNYC has shared high-quality video of the whole thing. Watch it below.
