Starting with last month’s “Holiest,” Palehound have begun expanding their sound from the lo-fi charm of the Bent Nail EP to something bolder and even more dynamic. You’d think with the addition of all these new musical layers (and members), Ellen Kempner could risk getting lost in the shuffle, but “Pay No Mind” snuffs out that idea. They do sound bigger and more complex here (the final minute is like an instrumental food fight between the band, in the best way possible), but that has only pushed Kempner to be an even stronger vocalist. She weaves her voice in and out of the music, letting it soar above before diving deep into the mix with ease. Listen below and check out their tour dates.
