A.G. Cook may not be a name you recognize right now, but by December you will. Between his role as leader of the mysterious PC Music label and work with Hannah Diamond he’s responsible (along with his friend and colleague Sophie) for blurring the lines between pop, dance, and experimental music in revelatory ways. His January single with Diamond “Keri Baby” is without a doubt my song of the year and that’s only because their earlier song “Pink And Blue” doesn’t count because it came out in the final week of 2013. Although his definitive work comes when he pairs himself with a singer (specifically Diamond), his newest track is essential listening if you’ve taken an interest in this strange music collective.

“Beautiful” shows the gleefully disorienting dynamics going on in Cook’s music. He fills the music with pitch-shifted vocals, unpredictable structures, and a sonic palette that makes me picture a sledgehammer made out of candy. It’s all tuned towards creating an incredibly bright, joyful piece of dance music. Listen and download it below.
