U2 Not Involved In iPhone 6 Launch … Or Are They?
Apple is getting ready to roll out the iPhone 6, and rumors are flying that U2 will be involved somehow. The Apple gossip site 9 To 5 Mac received a tip Wednesday suggesting Bono and company would have something to do with the product launch, with speculation including U2 performing a new single at Tuesday’s reveal event at the Flint Center in Cupertino and the iPhone 6 coming pre-loaded with the band’s new album. The site cites U2’s history with Apple; they teamed up for a special edition U2 iPod in 2004, and Apple has donated to Bono’s charity Project RED. Plus director Mark Romanek, who’s apparently shot a new U2 video involving a phone (see below), has previously worked on Apple ads. In light of the reports, U2 released a statement to Irish newspaper The Independent denying that they’ll perform Tuesday and insisting their album won’t be released via iPhone, but that article has been removed. A source tells Billboard a new single co-produced by Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, and Danger Mouse is imminent. So are U2 involved in the launch or aren’t they? All — or at least some — will be revealed Tuesday.
Looks like @U2 new album maybe preloaded on to iPhone6. The focus of the "video" on the bridge last week was a phone pic.twitter.com/CUY4rKTSM9
