Julian Casablancas & Blood Orange Played A Secret Show In Brooklyn Last Night
If you’ve never lived in New York, you may have never experienced the whole secret-show rush: You find out about a famous band playing in some way-too-small club tonight, you freak out, you rush to the venue, you pull every string available to get in, and you either make it through the crush at the door or you don’t, and you go home pissed off. The whole process can be amazing, and it can be deeply frustrating, but it’s an essential part of the New York music-dork experience. The latest burst of hysteria came last night at the Brooklyn DIY venue Shea Stadium, where Julian Casablancas + The Voidz (whose album Tyranny drops today) headlined a secret show. They were billed as Rawk Hawks, which might actually be a better name for this band. They played after a band billed as Naranja Bausch, which turned out to be Blood Orange, and a band billed as Big Ups, who turned out to actually be Big Ups.
