David Byrne’s Luaka Bop Holding 25th Anniversary Events In NYC Elevator Museum, Old-School Italian Restaurant, Karaoke Bar
David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label is turning 25 sometime soon (the label admits they don’t know exactly when it began — “some time in the late 1980s,” they speculate), and they’re throwing a three-day anniversary event in New York City. The celebration will take place over three nights (10/1 – 10/3) and will all pretty much run the same: Things will kick off at Mmuseumm, a “modern natural history museum located in an abandoned freight elevator” with performances by Javelin, Janka Nabay, Kings Go Forth’s Andy Noble, and Delicate Steve & Friends. Then, the party will move to Italian restauraunt Forlini’s for dinner (and unlimited breadsticks) before ending at Winnie’s Bar, a Chinatown karaoke hangout that will feature Jungle, Diane Birch, and a few secret guests hopping on the mic. All events are free. Check out an event poster below and click here for more information.
Luaka Bop also recently announced that they would be reissuing all of African electronic artist William Onyeabor’s discography in a box set. Preorder it here. You can stream one of the songs from that release below — it’s Peaking Lights’ take on Onyeabor’s “Body & Soul.”
