Jessie Ware’s slow-burning soul ballad “Say You Love Me” is both my favorite song on her very good sophomore album Tough Love and one of my favorite songs of the year. Last night, Ware was a musical guest on Late Night With Seth Meyers, and she sang a warm, deeply felt version of the song, with a three-piece band backing her up and the song’s gospel choir appearing only via sequencer. She sounded amazing, and the Late Night studio audience gets the gas face for not automatically cheering the “want to feel burrr-niiiing flaaame” part.
