Two Sheds – “Get It Out” (Stereogum Premiere)
The best husband-and-wife combinations have a palpable tension about them, a sense of comfort in letting the worst, most impatient part of themselves come to light through music as a form of catharsis. That’s not all Two Sheds have going for them — backed by a full band, the California-based group has a heft that complements Caitlin Gutenberger’s lyrics and voice well — but “Get It Out” feels like a song born out of frustration with a partner, something that can best be expressed through sound. It starts off gentle enough, imbued with an understated flair for the dramatic: “There’s blood in the hall/ It rolls under my feet/ I think I will hear you/ Finally…” Gutenberger trails off on the last word before punching into overdrive, intimating the title phrase with a renewed vigor. “So get it out.” The song builds up like an exorcism in slow motion, each chorus a spasm of hurt and irritation.
